Thomas Sankara’s wife: ‘He knew he was at risk all the time’ – BBC Africa

Mariam Sankara, the widow of former Burkina Faso President Thomas Sankara, says “justice is needed” as the trial for his murder starts.

Sankara was assassinated in 1987, having taken power in 1983.

He has been called “Africa’s Che Guevara” for his socialist and revolutionary beliefs and policies.

His widow says he knew he was in danger from those who disagreed with the direction in which he was taking Burkina Faso.
